This malware was built on a Mac running OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion back in 2013. This has shown up on several other topics with no clear solution. It is also combined with other erratic behaviour. I am not an expert in this, but I've come to a conclusion (after staying on the line for several hours with Apple with no resolution): Apple has integrated some new protocol into Safari, etc. that reports back to Apple (or?) after being interrogated - the Firewall in many gateway/routers interprets this as malicious activity and merely clamps the domain off until reset by rebooting the router, the computer, or both.
